The application for IFDM is now open. It will be open from January 18, 2017 - April 15, 2017 with a rolling admissions.    Those accepted will begin the program in Fall 2017. If you have questions or need more information, please email ifdm@unm.edu. Admission to IFDM is a three step process.

-1. Apply to the University of New Mexico

Students must first be admitted to the University of New Mexico. Prospective students can apply online through admissions.unm.edu.

Our application is sponsored by Decision Desk. You will be prompted to create a Decision Desk account before beginning the application. If you have questions or need more information, please email ifdm@unm.edu. The application is open from January 18-April 15, 2017.


Applicants must submit the following materials:


-Written essay (500 words) See the application for directions.
-One (1) of your strongest examples of creative ORIGINAL work

Including but not limited to journal articles, poems, scripts, computer programming for games, animation, business plans, videos, film, digital photography, music & sound pieces, mixed multimedia pieces, drawings, paintings, or pictures of ORIGINAL work (sculptures or other creative trade work).


This portion of the application is designed to allow students to demonstrate their ability to perform at a high artistic standard. In addition, the admissions committee will review your ACT or SAT Scores and your transcripts (high school & college) to check your academic standards.


If accepted to the IFDM program you will be notified on a rolling basis, no later than the end of April, and admitted into a cohort that begins in the Fall semester immediately following admission.

-3. Apply to UNM IFDM Host College / School

Once a student is accepted to IFDM, the final step is to align with one of the IFDM partnering College/School at UNM to become a declared pre-major. Each College/School has its own application requirements and process of becoming a pre-major and major; contact the IFDM Partner College Advisors, found on the ‘Advisement’ page of our website, to learn about the admission requirements for your chosen degree.
